There is a nervous, finger-hovering anticipation when the long-awaited email from the cover designer lands in the inbox.
Whoever said don't judge a book by its cover didn't know anything about publishing.
Write a great book and get the cover wrong—very bad for business.
So taking two books that have done well in the marketplace—recognizable books—and changing the covers is not something to take lightly.
I've been a bit on edge about it. Until I saw what the designer did! Whew. I love them.
I won't be revealing the new covers publicly for a few weeks but you guys deserve to see them first.
Here they are...
Why the new look?
When I wrote my debut novel, Fortunate Son, I didn't think it was going to be part of a series. The cover design was awesome...but, at the time, it was a one-off design.
Then I got the bright idea to write another Emma Noble book, A Noble Sin. It was a bit more challenging to push that design into the same container as the first book.
But we did manage it okay.
Then we took a poll and you guys chose Noble Reckoning as the name for the third book and blew up our cover convention entirely!
It was time for a facelift in preparation for the third book.
I love what the designer did with these. He kept the look of the original but now the books truly look like they belong next to each other.
Which was the goal.
So now what?
It's all about preparing for the launch of book 3, Noble Reckoning.
Our team is hoping to get Emma Noble readers excited about the next book while politely nudging folks that haven't read the first two.
I guess you could read Noble Reckoning as a stand-alone but, honestly, it wouldn't be as much fun.
